Components of Puppy Training: Biting
Sunday, May 31st, 2009When you first bring your new puppy home, it may seem like a cute game to let him chew a bit on your fingers and toes. However, this behavior becomes a lot less cute when your dog gets bigger and the bites get harder. Therefore, it is important to incorporate biting into your puppy training process, by teaching your dog that most types of biting and chewing are inappropriate. Puppy training for biting should begin as soon as your pup leaves his litter and comes home to live with you. This will ensure that the puppy training for biting that he has learned from his littermates will continue on with his new owner – you.
How To Pick the Right Dog Soap
Saturday, May 30th, 2009Shampoos For Your Dog
Your dog has a unique sort of skin. The bathing soap for his skin type allows him to have hair that is shiny and spotless. You have the selection of many types of shampoo for your dog’s skin. No matter the type of skin your dog may have, choosing the right shampoo is essential.
Your dog’s scratching will be indicative of the sort of skin irritation he has. He may have fleas, in which case the skin will look irritated. A shampoo made for fleas will have to be used. There is the possibility that he has allergies which are flaring up due to exposure to an irritant.
The Joy of Having a Dog
Saturday, May 30th, 2009Some people are pet people, others aren’t. Then there are people who don’t know that they are pet people because they simply have never experienced the joy that having a pet in your home can bring.
Dogs are known as ‘Mans best friend’, with good reason. They can be the best and most loyal companion you ever need. Of course they won’t be able to give you any words of wisdom or go training at the gym with you but there are many other quality things you can do together. From a personal point of view my own dogs have given me so much in my life, these are just a few examples:
Taking your Dog to the Park Safely!
Friday, May 29th, 2009I take my dogs to the park every day. It’s not one of those fancy
dog parks, mind you, where the regulars congregate daily and secretly
judge all the other dogs against their perfect pooch. It’s just a park,
but it does provide ‘‘poop bags’’ and plenty of open space for
tennis ball chasing. And dogs like it. The problem is, their owners are idiots.
Three Principles on Dog Obedience Training
Friday, May 29th, 2009Dog obedience training requires the use of some principles which differentiate effective training from training without results. Most dog training and dog behavior schools use these rules. These are:
Principle One:Consistency. You must be consistent in the use of words, the tone of your voice and your actions, that go with your command. At the beginning of training you as the dog owner or trainer must make the decision as to what guidelines you’ll use to teach the dog. Words do not make sense to a dog. Your dog does not understand our language, nor does he understand or think, the way we do.
Orthopaedic Dog Beds Can Ease Your Friends Sleep
Thursday, May 28th, 2009When he lies down, does your elderly dog find it dificult to get comfortable? He has always been quite happy sleeping on an old blanket in the hall, or next to your bed, or just outside the bedroom door. But now he keeps getting up and moving round before lying down again. An orthopaedic dog bed could make his life a whole lot more comfortable.
Dogs will sleep on anything, and generally will not complain. Newspapers (particularly those being read) are particularly popular and an old sweater is also favoured, but as a dog grows older, arthritis can creep in (just like humans), their legs start to ache as does their back, and at this stage, it is time to think of a more comfortable bed. This is where orthopaedic dog beds come in.
